Bari-4 is the country's first hybrid mango variety, developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute.
Bari-4 was developed in 1993 by crossbreeding the local late variety Ashwina with the colorful mango line M-3896 collected from Florida in the United States.
After trials, it was released in 2003 for cultivation in the northern region of Bangladesh. It is a late-season variety. Flowers (mukul) appear in the month of Falgun and the fruit ripens in Shraban. The fruit is round in shape. The average weight is 500 grams. It is light green when raw and yellow when ripe. It looks attractive. This sweet-tasting fruit has no fiber. The seed is small and thin. The mango is high-yielding and will bear fruit every year. The tree is small. Since it is not sour when raw, it can be eaten raw like a sweet mango.
