Papers, treatment, packing and rules by country, as far as we have checked them. Anything not checked says so.
General guide
Usual papers
- Exporter registration (ERC) and a trade licence.
- A phytosanitary certificate from the Plant Quarantine Wing of the Department of Agricultural Extension.
- Commercial invoice, packing list and a certificate of origin.
- For some markets a Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) certificate, pesticide residue test reports and traceability records.
Treatment
- Some countries need a hot water or vapour heat treatment against pests. BADC has a vapour heat treatment facility at Gabtoli, Dhaka, with a capacity of about three tonnes a day.
- For China, news reports give hot water at 48 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes. Check this against the country's own rules.
Limits in Bangladesh
- Many growers do not follow GAP and international certification is hard to get, which limits access to markets such as Europe. Weak record keeping also makes tracing the fruit hard.
